Synopsis

Hood Habits: The Musical

An Effort to ReClaim, ReValue and ReStore our Youth

Hood Habits is the graphic true story of inner city realities and proof that if given a chance; given opportunities and unconditional love, the human spirit will soar like an eagle.

Set in Modern day, in the inner city of Valley View Villa, we meet Flex. A drug dealin’, 14 yr. old wanna be tap dancing, rap star, a talent he hides from his crew. Flex has witnessed one too many drive by shootings and hits on his crew and community members; he feels he will remain signed up in the “Stay in The Hood for Life Program”.

The Hood is a condition of mindset not a condition of buildings. In the real “hoods”, children are forced to skip their childhood; learning life’s lessons on speed dial.  Flex experiences a life of turmoil, disappointments and failure.

After another arrest, his homeroom teacher encourages him to attend Eyes Back Academy, a gang relocation program for at risk teens from the North and Southside of Valley View Villa, home to the “North side Pride” and “South side Ride or Die” gangs.

Flex meets a pre-teen, D Double GG, a wannabe gangsta and feels he has an obligation to shield and protect him as much as he possibly can from the streets.  D Double GG joins Flex’ crew, the KBBW’s.

Can Flex break free from the hood life and become a star despite all the odds against him?

It’s a story of survival, it’s a story of reclaiming one’s childhood, revaluing ones inner being and restoring their pride.
